In the heart of Cobano, just a short drive from Santa Teresa, La Cobaneña is as authentic as it gets. Everything is cooked over a wood fire, giving each dish that smoky, homemade flavor Costa Ricans call a la leña.
The atmosphere is pure tico: friendly, family run, and filled with the sounds of laughter and sizzling pans. Smell of smoke billowing out of the kitchen window accompanies you and your coffee while you wait for the giant plate of pinto to come out. You will find the owner Carol waiting tables every day, 6 days a week 💪

At Costa Casual Retreats, we believe breakfast sets the tone for the entire day — and that’s why we love connecting our guests to the local food culture that makes this area so special. At the end of the day, nothing compares to coming home to Chef Lula’s cooking. Her breakfasts aren’t just meals; they’re a true taste of Costa Rica, made with love, local ingredients, and that magic touch only a mother can have. Whether it’s her perfectly seasoned gallo pinto, fresh fruit smoothie blends, or her famous plantains cooked just right, every dish feels like it was made just for you. It’s not just food; it’s family, and it’s what makes every morning at Costa Casual unforgettable.
So whether you’re visiting for a yoga retreat, surf trip, or creative escape, make time to explore the breakfast spots that locals love — you’ll leave full, inspired, and smiling all day long. We also have 10+ different fruit trees on our property as well, and it just so happens that Lula really knows what she’s doing when it comes to the smoothie game! 🧃
